Author Guidelines

Comprehensive instructions for preparing and submitting manuscripts to the Journal of Psychological Testing & Psychometric (JPTP). Please read these guidelines carefully before submitting your work.

1. Manuscript Preparation

General Requirements

  • Language: English (US or UK, but be consistent)
  • Word Count: 5,000-8,000 words (excluding title page, abstract, references, tables, and figures)
  • File Format: Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or LaTeX
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12-point
  • Line Spacing: Double-spaced throughout
  • Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides
  • Page Numbers: Consecutive, starting from title page

Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts should be organized in the following order:

1. Title Page

Include: Full title (max 20 words), short title (max 50 characters), all author names with affiliations, corresponding author details (email, phone, ORCID iD), word count, and acknowledgments.

2. Abstract

150-250 words, structured with: Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions. Followed by 4-6 keywords (use APA thesaurus).

3. Introduction

Present research problem, literature review, theoretical framework, research gap, and specific research questions/hypotheses.

4. Methods

Subsections: Participants, Measures/Instruments, Procedures, Statistical Analyses. Include psychometric properties, sample size justification.

5. Results

Present findings logically, use tables and figures effectively, report all relevant statistics (effect sizes, confidence intervals).

6. Discussion

Interpret findings, compare with existing literature, acknowledge limitations, discuss implications, suggest future research.

7. References

Follow APA 7th Edition style. Include DOIs for all sources when available.

8. Tables and Figures

Place after references, one per page. Include clear captions and notes.

9. Appendices (if applicable)

Include supplementary materials such as questionnaires, additional analyses, or technical details.

2. Formatting Requirements

Tables

  • Number consecutively (Table 1, Table 2...)
  • Place title above table (italic)
  • Use horizontal lines only
  • Define all abbreviations in notes
  • Ensure readable when printed B&W
  • Submit as editable text, not images

Figures

  • High resolution (minimum 300 DPI)
  • Acceptable formats: TIFF, EPS, JPEG
  • Place caption below figure
  • Use clear, legible fonts (min 8pt)
  • Ensure distinguishable in grayscale
  • Submit separate files for each figure

Journal Article:

3. Article Types

Original Research Articles

Reports of empirical research in psychological testing and psychometrics. Should include novel findings that advance the field.

Word Limit: 6,000-8,000 words

Tables/Figures: Up to 8 combined

References: 50-80 recommended

Abstract: 200-250 words

Review Articles

Comprehensive, critical reviews of research on specific topics in psychological testing. Can be narrative, systematic, or meta-analytic reviews.

Word Limit: 7,000-10,000 words

Tables/Figures: Up to 10 combined

References: 80-150 recommended

Abstract: 200-250 words

Methodological Papers

Papers presenting new statistical methods, measurement techniques, or analytical approaches in psychometrics.

Word Limit: 5,000-7,000 words

Tables/Figures: Up to 8 combined

References: 40-70 recommended

Abstract: 150-200 words

Brief Reports

Short reports of preliminary findings, pilot studies, or novel observations that warrant rapid publication.

Word Limit: 2,500-3,500 words

Tables/Figures: Up to 3 combined

References: Maximum 30

Abstract: 100-150 words

4. Ethical Guidelines

Research Ethics

  • IRB Approval: Provide ethics committee approval number and institution name
  • Informed Consent: Confirm that all participants provided informed consent
  • Confidentiality: Ensure participant anonymity and data protection
  • Vulnerable Populations: Additional protections required for children, patients, etc.
  • Animal Research: Follow institutional and international guidelines (if applicable)

Conflicts of Interest

All authors must disclose any financial, professional, or personal relationships that could be perceived as influencing the research. If no conflicts exist, state "The authors declare no conflicts of interest."

Funding Disclosure

Declare all sources of funding for the research. Include grant numbers and funding agency names. Specify the role of funders in study design, data collection, analysis, and manuscript preparation.

Authorship

All listed authors must have made substantial contributions to: (1) conception/design or data acquisition/analysis, (2) drafting or critical revision, (3) final approval, and (4) agree to be accountable for all aspects.

Data Availability

Authors are encouraged to make data openly available. Provide a data availability statement indicating where data can be accessed or explain any restrictions (e.g., privacy concerns, institutional policies).

5. Submission Process

Required Files for Submission

1. Main Manuscript (Blinded)

Remove all author identifying information for peer review

2. Title Page (Separate File)

Include all author information, affiliations, and contact details

3. Tables and Figures

Submit as separate files with clear labels

4. Cover Letter

Explain significance, confirm originality, suggest reviewers (optional)

6. Peer Review Process

Reject

Manuscript not suitable for publication in current form
